Ferdinand and the Annoying Fly

We see Ferdinand already in bed,
a quiet, high-pitched buzzing draws near,
almost a squeak, or a hum overhead,
he listens and watches the fly appear.

He wonders if this cruel beast can be dead,
he hopes it will soon vanish from here.
He grabs a broom, crooked, slow, so I fear,
to silence the fly, as he said, sincere.

But: he now seeks to escape the affair.
With flashlight held firm in his hand,
he lights the paths through the room with care.
Its beam he guides across table and stand,
toward the window — the fly takes to the air,
and leaves the room due to his light’s command.
